A very successful first night kicked off the new Winter league at the club. Below are the results:

Alec and Howard were the only shows last Wednesday and Howard fended off Alec’s challenges 3-0 and 3-2. Prevailing wisdom sees the low turnout as something to do with holiday lethargy. Let’s get one more turkey into us and then let’s all start working it off with a good turnout this coming Wednesday.

A sparse pre-Christmas turnout still resulted in some good action on the courts as Ron defended his position on the ladder against all comers. Attendance was down a bit last night so everyone played one match (2 out of 3 games) against everyone else. Results were:
Rick continued his domination of Howard in close games 11-13, 12-10, 13-11
Tom bested Carl 11-6, 11-4
Tom out-dueled Kent 14-12, 11-6
Howard edged Carl 11-8, 11-6
Tom beat Howard 11-6, 0-11, 11-6
Kent captured Rick’s position in 3rd [...]

Despite 11 matches and the addition of another player to the ladder there was no actual movement on the ladder after tonight’s action.
Howard and Aaron Fuller got things started with Howard prevailing 11-6 and 11-7.
Tom won a showdown with Aran Brady 11-7, 11-8.
Kent welcomed newcomer Carl Adams with an 11-3, 11-3 win.

Looking to get off the bottom rung of the ladder Howard challenged Rick to a match on Friday. Although Howard jumped to a 2-0 lead Rick prevailed in a tough third game and rode that momentum to victory in the final 2 games. Results were 8-11, 8-11, 13-11, 11-7, 11-8.
